A Colombian Army Titán-C armoured vehicle survived an attack from improvised explosive devices (IEDs), according to the army.

In late August a Titán-C 4×4 was attacked with an explosive charge placed next to the road, which caused it to crash in the direction of a car and overturn, according to an army report after the attack. The crew of 12 soldiers escaped unharmed, and the vehicle did not suffer major damage – a second Titán assisted during the attack. Dissidents associated with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) also fired rifles at the vehicles, the army report said.

The attack took place during surveillance and control operations (within the Plan Meteoro programme) in the south of the country, according to the army.

The vehicle was inspected in the city of Pasto by technicians from manufacturing company Integrated Defense Solutions (IDS) on 1 September. The company requested its transfer to Bogotá for a more detailed inspection, but preliminarily determined that the vehicle is recoverable and that work would not exceed 30 days, a source who requested anonymity told Janes .

It is expected that after this inspection – and a diagnosis of damage, repair work, and costs – the army will begin the contracting process for returning the vehicle to service.

Titán-C (Trop)

During 2022 IDS designed and manufactured the new vehicles – the Titán-C Trop (troop carrier) – delivering two 4×2 and three 4×4 units in 2023, a source who requested anonymity told Janes .
